Reception - Year 6
Tyndale Christian School Strathalbyn offers a comprehensive primary education programme catering for children from Reception to Year 6. Our Primary School staff are dedicated Christian teachers committed to a strong academic foundation for our students. We provide an encouraging and supportive environment as students explore their own personal faith journey towards a relationship with Jesus. Daily shared devotions foster the importance of making time for God in our lives.
The early years of Primary School lay the foundations for life-long learning. In Reception to Year 2, students are provided with many hands-on learning experiences. This is an important part of early years development, particularly in literacy and numeracy. Our early literacy learning is based on Jolly Phonics. This supports an early grasp of reading skills and phonemic awareness. Students engage in fine and gross motor activities, discover technology through coding and iPads, and develop social skills which are strengthened by Christian values.
Our Year 3 to 6 students engage in a curriculum that builds on the skills and knowledge they acquired in the formation phase of their learning. The development of literacy and numeracy skills remains a core focus, while establishing and developing the skills and content necessary in other learning areas. Students form an understanding of their role in society, the importance of respect for others and having a servant heart. Developing a deeper understanding of their faith and how their faith connects into the wider world is an important aspect of our students’ spiritual development.
In addition to the School’s commitment to the core curriculum, our Primary School students enjoy the benefits of access to specialist subject teachers. These programmes include Physical Education, French and Music (R-6), with Digital Technology (Yr 4-6), Home Economics and Design and Technology (woodwork) (Yr 6) also offered to enhance the learning outcomes and skills in readiness for Middle School.
Our Buddy Programmes enable our Primary students to interact with our Secondary students on a regular basis. This interaction aims to encourage a school-wide sense of community, cooperation and family.
Our Primary students take part in School-based athletics and cross country carnivals, and from Year 3 onwards, form part of the South Australian Christian Schools Sports Association (SACSA) Carnivals. The school regularly competes in athletics, cross country, football, netball, soccer, basketball and chess on a competitive basis. We also have teams competing in the South Australian Primary Schools Sport Association (SAPSASA) competitions.
The Primary School programme at Tyndale Christian School Strathalbyn provides our students with a balanced academic, social and spiritual development in preparation for entry to Secondary School.
