Reception - Year 6
Tyndale Christian School Strathalbyn offers a comprehensive primary education programme catering for children from Reception to Year 6. Our Primary School staff are dedicated Christian teachers committed to a strong academic foundation for our students. We provide an encouraging and supportive environment as students explore their own personal faith journey towards a relationship with Jesus. Daily shared devotions foster the importance of making time for God in our lives.
The early years of Primary School lay the foundations for life-long learning. In Reception and Year 1 students are taught through hands-on experiences, early literacy and numeracy skills. Our early literacy learning is based on Jolly Phonics supporting an early grasp of reading skills. Students engage in fine and gross motor activities, discover computers, and develop their social skills underpinned by Christian values woven into the curriculum content.
Our Year 2 to 6 students engage in a curriculum building on the skills and knowledge they acquired in the formation phase of their learning. The development of literacy and numeracy skills remain a core focus, increasingly establishing the importance and content of the other learning areas. Learning engages students to form an understanding of their role in society and the importance of respect for others and having a servant heart. Developing a deeper understanding of their faith and how their faith fits into the wider world is an important aspect of our student’s spiritual development.
In addition to the School’s commitment to the core curriculum, our Primary School students enjoy the benefits of access to specialist subject teachers in many areas. These programmes include Physical Education, French, Music and Home Economics (Year 4 to 6) to enhance the learning outcomes of our Primary School students and develop their skills in readiness for Middle School.
Our Buddy Programme enables our Primary students to interact with our Secondary students on a regular basis. This interaction aims to encourage a school-wide sense of community and cooperation.
Our Primary students take part in our School based athletics and cross country carnivals, and from Year 4 onwards form part of the South Australian Christian Schools Sports Association (SACSA) Carnivals. Here we compete in athletics, cross country, football, netball, soccer and basketball on a competitive basis. We also have teams competing in the South Australian Primary Schools Sport Association (SAPSASA) competitions.
The Primary School programme at Tyndale Christian School Strathalbyn provides our students with a balanced academic, social and spiritual development in preparation for entry to Secondary School.
